Andaazan
One table. Four seats. The Indian food my family actually eats — in a licensed home kitchen in North Hollywood.
I learned to cook by hanging out in the kitchens of my grandparents, aunts and parents, and in the kitchens of my friends’ and neighbors’ homes. These recipes live in the taste buds of my memories, in the remembered warmth, touch, taste, laughter, feel and smell of those shared meals. They are scribbled down and spread across notebooks and loose pages, and I am sharing all of it with you.
Andaazan means by feel, through love and memory. That is the whole method, and it is why none of this tastes like a restaurant. You are welcome to come into the kitchen to learn or watch, and I am happy to share my recipes and my stories with you over dinner.
There is one table and it seats four. Book the whole table and bring your own people, or take a single seat and I will sit you with the others — I close the table once four are in. I cook a fixed menu, I serve it, and I sit down with you for part of it. It runs about three hours.
Apps, dinner, sweets, chai.
The menu moves with what the market gives me. It is fixed for the night, and I will tell you exactly what it is when you book.
The Diwali table on Sunday 8 November is a special Diwali vegetarian menu.
Included
- All the food
- Chai
- Non-alcoholic drinks
- About three hours at the table
- Dietary adjustments where the dish allows, told to me in advance
Not included
Alcohol. No alcohol is served, and guests cannot bring their own. A licensed home kitchen needs a separate state licence for that, and I do not have one. Please do not bring a bottle — I will have to leave it at the door.

Before you book.
Can I swap a dish?
Meri marzi. No. The menu is fixed. Tell me about allergies and real restrictions when you book and I will work around them where the dish allows.
Can I book a single seat?
Yes. Take one, two or three seats at $125 each and I will sit you with the others at the same table. I close the table once four people are in. If you would rather not sit with strangers, book all four and bring your own people.
Where is it?
North Hollywood, near Universal. You get the exact address with your confirmation.
Is parking easy?
There is ample free street parking nearby.
Can I bring wine?
No. Licensing, not snobbery. A licensed home kitchen needs a separate state licence to serve or allow alcohol, and I do not have one.
Is it spicy?
As spicy as you want it. You pick your heat when you request the table and I cook to it — from mild through to however I would make it for myself. Nobody gets surprised.
Can I photograph the food?
Yes. Please do.
Can I watch you cook?
Yes. You are welcome in the kitchen, and I am happy to talk you through what I am doing.
